My fav. Kamal movies

He is the main reason I am still watching Tamil movies. They say he is an acting genius. I say he makes movie watching a much pleasurable experience...bordering orgasm, maybe?

You cry when he cries, you laugh when he laughs. Unlike the case with the others (a few exception), where the opposite is true.

My views might slightly be skewed. Thus I may have appeared to exaggerate a little, above...hehe, can't help it. In ascending order, my favourite (plot + acting) of his movies:

1. Varumayin niram sivappu - Pre anbe-sivam. Saw the rebel, the idealist.
2. Kurudhi punal - I preferred the terrorist over him. Freaky show, ppl.
3. Sathi leelavathi - Situational comedy. Like that of Lock, stock and two smoking barrels.
4. Salangai oli - Life of a failed bharathanatyam dancer.
5. Nayagan - Wanting to emulate his idol, Brando; was he successful? Perhaps, u judge.
6. Thevar magan - Probably the grandest Tamil movie ever made. U might want to argue with my choice of words here, i.e: the grandest? I have my reasons.
7. Anbe sivam - Again the idealist, the communist this time.
8. Mahanadhi - Great plot. Life of a decent, gullible, cheated man.
9. Moondram pirai - Superb acting. Both. Excellent love story. I am a sucker for romantic flicks. Beautiful. Poignant. Classic.

Lost and never found...

Love. When two individuals pledge to stay together till death tears them apart, and one party betrays the other, a vacuum is created; an empty space void of all feelings, emotions, and life.

When such calamity befalls the unlucky party, he/she falls deep in a well and refuse to come out from it till death plucks life from his/her lifeless body. Its a choice actually, a choice taken to stay away from the limelight, away from the normalcy of the daily activities. Thus great philosophers, alcoholics, artists, playwrights are born.

I wouldn't even want to imagine the threshold of pain and disappointment such a person has to go through. Distrust and dishonesty - qualities that I reject and despise greatly; a person that can't keep to his/her pledge I would gladly label as being dishonest. What happens to the integrity of a promise when it is broken? Imagine that. I think, it's a despicable act- breaking promises.

To conclude, I will say to escape from all this, love no one but yourself...hehehe. That was a joke, a bad one but still a joke. But seriously, I'd say, don't promise if you can't deliver.

Just look at Cheenu. Whose love's lost and never found.

Moondram Pirai

Unn per enna? *Chukles*...Cheenu, Seenivasan. Irandu per aa? *Pauses*..Ithule ethavathu, onnu kuppita pothum. Cheeenuu..:)
- Seenivasan answering Viji.

The year Moondram Pirai was made: 1983. The year i watched it: 2005. Reputed to be one of the best movies ever made in Indian cinema. I am in complete agreement with the statement.

There were so many great memorable lines in this movie, choosing just a few to begin with, became such an arduous task; These lines, they were constantly filled with a sincere childlike ignorance and bluntness. You can say, the language used is very simple, but not too shallow to insult an adult viewer.

The outstanding visuals vividly expose and capture the intensity of its actors in almost every frame. Remember, the English Patient? The experience, somehow similar.

In a movie bereft of artificiality and fakeness such as this, the storyteller's sincerity in narrating is very apparent. And any story, told in greatest sincerity is worth listening. In fact, every aspect of the movie celebrates poignancy. With absolutely no unneccessary scenes, the movie finishes faster than most Indian movies but not less effective in conveying the actual content and plot to the audience.

I will watch it again, definitely. But why this post? Good things are best shared. I thought it'd be nice if I could share the feelings it created in words. Maybe I failed to express the idea clearly, I wouldn't know, but do know I only have positive things to say about this movie. To sum things up, I will simply say, this is my favourite Tamil movie.

A no name entry

Talent's a curse; perseverance a virtue.

One would ignorantly claim that all talented people are destined for success. The talented feel otherwise. Not that they wish not to be called a genius, or a star. It's just that this claim they feel is not entirely true.

I observe and execute. I don't immitate, I innovate. I am not an expert in many ways; but I am durable. Recyle, reuse, and redo - that's my motto, I work and work and work over and over again to acquire/master a technique. Surely, it takes time, but perseverance is one of my better virtue.

I may be branded as being arrogant for writing that last paragraph. It's all full of I's and myself. But I had a clear objective, to bring out to light my personal style. So, in any case, if a decision or an act undertaken by me turns out bad, the fault can be entirely mine. And the inspiration entirely opposite.
